Troops of the 3 Division, Nigerian Army, under Operation Safe Haven, have apprehended a notorious arms dealer and seized weapons along the Bokkos-Bot-Mangu road in Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The arrest, which was based on credible intelligence, was revealed in a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama on Thursday.
The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Sengi David from Kopal Village in Panyam District, Mangu LGA, was intercepted around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday while attempting to smuggle arms.
“He was found with one AK-47 magazine bearing civil police markings and 48 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” the report stated.
Military sources confirmed that the suspect and the recovered weapons are in custody for further investigation, while a manhunt is underway for other members of the gun-running syndicate.
The Nigerian Army reassured residents of its commitment to combating illegal arms proliferation and maintaining peace across Plateau and other areas under Operation Safe Haven.
