Thomas Tuhcel has confirmed that Marcos Alonso, the Spanish left-back, has asked to leave Chelsea in order to join La Liga giants Barcelona.
This summer, the Catalans attempted to sign both Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta, but the Chelsea captain recently signed a new two-year contract.
Barcelona’s pursuit of Alonso continues, and the Spaniard was not included in Chelsea’s matchday squad for their Premier League opener against Everton on Saturday.
When asked if Alonso’s absence is related to his desire to join Barcelona, Tuchel responded, “That is the case.”
“He tries to leave, and we agreed to this wish, which is why having him on the pitch today would have made no sense.”
“He’d have been on the field otherwise.” It’s the right thing to do in this situation.”
Chelsea won 1-0 thanks to Jorginho’s first-half penalty, but Tuchel praised Thiago Silva’s performance, with the 37-year-old putting in an impressive performance at Goodison Park.
“Perhaps I’ve never worked with a player that age in general, so he’s the fittest one I’ve trained at that age,” Tuchel explained.
“In general, all three of our back three players were in their thirties, as were the two number sixes, and we could see that we struggled physically at the end of the match.”
“We need to work on our physical fitness, and we will.” We are confident that we will improve, and we are working hard to do so.
“Thiago is a key, key player in the middle of the defense right now, but we need to move on the ball, not off the ball, to invest more physically with more runs,” said coach Steve Nicol. More training and games will be required.”
