Twitter Ban: Buhari Govt Distracting Nigerians From Failures – Ortom
Recall that Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, had announced an indefinite suspension of Twitter operations in Nigeria.
The federal government had accused the social media site of engaging in activities that would undermine the nation’s existence.
In a post on his Twitter page on Tuesday, the Benue governor described the indefinite suspension of Twitter by the Muhammadu Buhari administration as illegal.
Samuel Ortom said the ban is a suppression of the fundamental rights of Nigerians.
According to the governor, the government’s action is a gag on social media.
“The ban on Twitter is not only illegal but it is also an ill-advised move to divert the attention of Nigerians from the FG’s failure to tackle insecurity in parts of the country,” he tweeted.
“It amounts to suppression of fundamental human rights and gagging of social media.”
