Two LASU students, others die in auto crashes
Six persons including an undergraduate of the Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have been killed in separate road crashes in Ogun State.
The student, Timothy Ademola, 26, with his co-travellers, Rasak Olayinka and Kelechi Nwagu died in an accident that occurred Tuesday morning near Babcock University Junction, Ilisan along Sagamu-Benin expressway, the Ogun State Police command said yesterday.
It said the accident involved a truck with registration number LAR730XB, a Toyota Sienna and a Lexus car marked BDG979HD.
A statement by police spokeswoman, SP Omolola Odutola, said one Sorunke Emmanuel sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.
Accoridng to her, the accident was caused by speed violation, adding that the driver of the Lexus vehicle rammed into a moving truck and tumbled several times. She said the Toyota Sienna crashed in the rear of the Lexus.
Another accident, it was gathered, occurred around midnight on Tuesday along the Lagos-Sagamu expressway which led to the death of an unidentified person.
The victim was knocked by a hit and run driver. The body was deposited at Idera morgue Sagamu, while the one that occurred around Toll gate on Sagamu-Abeokuta road claimed one life and involved a truck with registration number JBD483ZY.
Also, three persons were reportedly killed the same Tuesday night when a hit-and-run truck rammed into a tricycle conveying them along Ogijo-Mosimi road, Ogun State.
The accident occurred at about 22:25pm and involved an unmarked truck and a tricycle with registration number LSD175QM.
The Nation learnt that the injured victims were taken to Dasochris Hospital Gbaga, for treatment while the family of the deceased evacuated their remains.
The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, Anthony Uga, confirmed the accidents through the Public Education Officer and Chief Route Commander Florence Okpe.
Uga said he was particularly pained by the recklessness of some motorists not considering other road users.
“A total of six persons were involved which comprised four male adults, one female adult and one female child.
“Three persons were injured (two male adults and one female adult). A total of three persons were recorded dead from the crash (two male adults and one female child),” Okpe explained.
She said injured victims were taken to Dasochris Hospital, Gbaga, for medical attention while the families of the deceased took the dead bodies.
