U-17 WWC: Flamingos battle Germany for third position

By Adeleye Kunle
Nigeria’s Flamingos will seek to end their campaign at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in style when they take on Germany in the third place match on Sunday (today).
Bankole Olowookere’s side missed out on a place in the final after losing 6-5 on penalties to Colombia in the semi-final on Wednesday.
The Flamingos came within a kick of reaching the final during the penalty shootout, but defender, Omamuzo Edafe’s effort agonizingly came off the upright.
It will be the second meeting between both teams in the competition.
Germany defeated Nigeria 2-1 when both countries met in a group game.
“The girls gave a very good account of themselves but it was not to be,” Olowookere reflected on the defeat to Colombia.
“We have the bronze medal match to contend with and we will throw everything into it.”
