When Austin, the governor’s brother, changed his mind and decided to run against the governor after initially withdrawing from the campaign after announcing that he was a senatorial candidate, it created confusion.

Governor Umahi was chosen after a new primary election was mandated by the Federal High Court in Abakaliki.

Umahi also wins the APC senatorial candidacy by defeating four rivals.

Nwakaego Chukwu, Princess Ann Ago-Eze, and Mrs. Ibiam Margaret were other contenders in the district’s senatorial primary. Nwakaego Chukwu received five votes, Mrs. Ibiam Margaret received three, and Princess Ann Ago-Eze received none.

The results of the election, which took place at the Afikpo North Local Government Area administrative center, were announced by Prof. Adebayo Kehinde, the chairman of the electoral commission.

According to Kehinde, Mr. David Nweze Umahi is formally proclaimed the winner of the primary election for the Ebonyi South senatorial zone because he collected the most votes.

In his acceptance address, Governor Umahi commended the electoral body for conducting the primaries in a transparent and orderly manner.

He also expressed gratitude to the delegates for their faith in him and assured them that the APC will triumph in the future general election in 2023.

The state head of the party, Stanley Emegha, said that it was acceptable if the governor’s brother opted to compete once more after pulling out of the contest.
