UNIJOS Student Killed: ‘We Are In Pains, Fears’ – SUG Calls For Help

The Student Union Government of the University of Jos has called for help from both the State and Federal Governments over the continuous killing of students of the institution by criminal elements.
The varsity SUG President, Comrade Danladi Joshua Adankala, who spoke with newsmen on Thursday following the gruesome murder of a 100 level student, said they (students) are in deep pains and fears over unprovoked attack on students of the institution by hoodlums.
According to Adankala, the development is proof that there was no known form of genuine concern for students of UNIJOS by the government which is why the killing has continued.
TrackNews Online understands that the recent agitation by the students was stirred after a 100 level student was allegedly pulled out of a tricycle and stabbed to death around Bauchi road in Jos North LGA of the state.
It was reported that the student boarded a tricycle from the Permanent site of the University to the main campus, on the road he was pulled out and stabbed to death.
Lamenting further on the current situation at the varsity, Adankala said: “We cry out but unfortunately it ends just on the walls of our social media account and platform because they are mere students whose lives mean nothing to the government.
“At the risk of being misunderstood, we dare to state that just within few hours of the unfortunate incident of 14th August, the security agencies combed the area and arrested more than 20 suspects as contained in the press statement issued by the Nigerian Police Force, Plateau State Command.
“This means the security agencies can be effective, but unfortunately, the innocent students of the University of Jos do not deserve such prompt attention and energy”, he lamented.
“Our tears for justice has generated nothing else than more pains, hurts, fears, sorrows and endless lamentations”, he decried.
“If we have a government that can respond swiftly to the Rukuba Road incident, one wonders what is happening to us the Students of the University of Jos.
“This is no doubt an affirmation of the saying that ‘all animals are not equal.
He appealed to the government on behalf of the students to as a matter of urgent priority expand the scope of transportation services available to students and staff both on and off-campus, Adding that, if the aforementioned is done, it will enable them to boycott the services of tricycle and motorcycle riders, most of whom are among our “attackers and killers”.
The students also called on the University authority to establish a market or multipurpose store where basic foodstuff can be sold on campus.
“This will prevent us from unnecessary trips to the markets in the neighbouring communities where our economic impact is not even appreciated.
“As a matter of urgency, the state Government should appeal to the federal government to facilitate the building of perimeter fencing of our institution.
“There should be more accommodation (Hostels) for students of the University of Jos, this will go a long way in reducing the number of students who stays off-campus”, he stressed.
