Uniport VC hails Dr. Waribugo for stellar performance at entrepreneurship centre

Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, has hailed the Acting Director of the UNIPORT Entrepreneurship Centre (UPEC), Dr. Sylva Waribugo, for his innovative approach to entrepreneurship training and overall good performance.

He lauded Dr. Sylva and his team for their transformative efforts and for hitting the ground running since assuming their new role.

In a post made on LinkedIn, the VC said the entrepreneurship centre has undergone massive changes and has taken a new, befitting look thanks to Dr. Sylva.

Prof. Georgewill in the post also disclosed that Dr. Sylva is collaborating with the Winners Chapel Church to organize a five-day entrepreneurship and skill acquisition workshop for students, commencing on Monday, 24th June 2024.

He wrote: “University of Port Harcourt entrepreneurship centre wears a new look, collaborates with Winners Chapel to organize an entrepreneurship skills acquisition workshop in the University of Port Harcourt.

“The newly appointed Acting Director of the centre, Dr. Sylva Waribugo, has hit the ground running.

“The centre now wears a new look as both the exterior and interior have undergone changes to give the centre an attractive and befitting look.

“Collaborating with Winners Chapel church, the centre is organizing a five day entrepreneurship and skill acquisition workshop commencing on Monday 24th.

“We commend the director and his team for their innovative approach to entrepreneurship training and collaboration with the organizations, institutions and agencies.”

While interacting with journalists at the Entrepreneurship Centre, Dr. Sylva thanked Prof. Georgewill for giving him the opportunity to make a difference.

He said: “Our primary mandate is to create a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem that fosters innovation, drives economic development, and equips students to become successful entrepreneurs and business icons.

“We also engage with individuals, alumni, corporate bodies, government, NGOs and the local community to amplify entrepreneurship; and provide training, workshops, seminars, mentorship and support to SMEs, employees, youths and women.

“A notable company that has partnered with the Centre is Amotoi Global Services.”

Dr. Sylva hinted that the centre is also set to implement initiatives that will address social issues through entrepreneurial solutions.

“We are to commence the Master of Entrepreneurship program by the next academic session too,” he added.

The Dr. Sylva-led UPEC has helped students to acquire skills and techniques in the production of liquid soap, detergent, deodorizer, disinfectant, paint, solar panel installation as well as coding and software development.

Mangrovepen.ng recalls that Dr. Sylva, a first class graduate and former Chairman of Nembe Local Government Council in Bayelsa State, executed several developmental projects and programmes that improved the living standard of the people during his stint in office.
