UNODC, Danish embassy launch community-based crime prevention project in Bayelsa

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Embassy of Denmark today, launched a community-based crime prevention project in Bayelsa State.
The project with the theme: Strengthening the Niger Delta peace architecture through community-based crime and Violence Prevention strategies, was launched in Yenagoa by the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria,
Sune Krogstrup in the presence of Governor Douye Diri.

In his remarks, Governor Diri thanked the UNODC, the Danish embassy and the European Union for collaborating with the state government to reduce crime in the state.
Governor Diri stated that, last year, the UNODC initiated and completed projects in Otuan, Ikeibiri and Ayamasa, with a corresponding reduction in unemployment, crime and criminality in the state, urging them to continue to collaborate more with the state in other areas that will improve the living standards of the people of the state.
“Let me express our profound gratitude to our partners from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the Danish and Finish embassies for what they are set to do in Bayelsa State and the Niger Delta.
The support of the UNODC, EU and all other ambassadors has contributed to the peace and security we enjoy today in our state.
The importance of Bayelsa State to Nigeria cannot be overemphasized, because as you are already aware, Bayelsa is at the centre of the Gulf of Guinea, and so, we are happy to have you with us, and we are sure that we are going to improve on what we have done last year”, Governor Diri stated.
Dignitaries at the launch include His Excellency, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Prof. Nimibofa Ayawei, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Peter Akpe, Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, members of the State Executive Council, and other top government officials.
