UPDATE: Confusion as Newly Elected LAHA Speaker, Meranda Reportedly Resigns

The atmosphere was fraught with bewilderment and speculation last night as reports emerged suggesting that the newly elected Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, had tendered her resignation from the prestigious position. This development swiftly ignited a flurry of reactions, with some of her close associates, who chose to remain anonymous, vehemently denying the authenticity of these claims.
Amidst the circulating story was a supposed resignation letter dated February 17, 2025. In this letter, Meranda purportedly announced her decision to step down from her role as Speaker and return to her duties as a regular member of the assembly. The letter stated that her resignation was to take effect immediately.
“With your unyielding support, I had the honor of making history as the first woman to ascend to the position of Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, a milestone I hold in high regard. The solidarity and trust you extended to me will always be cherished,” the letter quoted her as expressing.
“To my esteemed and honorable colleagues, I offer my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support and cooperation throughout what has been a brief yet profoundly engaging period of service.”
The letter further stated her intention to continue representing the Apapa 1 Constituency as a dedicated member of the assembly: “I now transition back to the floor of this esteemed chamber as a fellow honorable member, representing the Apapa 1 Constituency. My commitment to serving the people of Apapa 1 and the wider Lagos community remains steadfast,” it concluded.
However, in a conversation with The Nigerian Guardian (TNG), her associates quickly dismissed the resignation letter as a forgery, a product of those intent on causing confusion within political circles. They insisted that these reports were nothing more than fabrications by mischief-makers, aiming to sow discord and uncertainty.
