Victor Boniface sends six-word message to Osimhen after history-making goal for Super Eagles
Bayer Leverkusen Victor Boniface has expressed his admiration for teammate Victor Osimhen following the latter’s impressive performance against Benin Republic.
Osimhen scored a crucial equaliser in their AFCON 2025 qualifying match to help Nigeria emerge as Group D winners.
After the game, Boniface took to Instagram to leave a playful comment on Osimhen’s post.
“You think say na play play 😂,” highlighting the significance of Osimhen’s contribution to the team’s efforts.
In the match held at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Côte d’Ivoire, Osimhen came through for the Super Eagles after they found themselves trailing 1-0 due to an early goal from Benin.
The Leverkusen star entered the game as a second-half substitute and was on the pitch when Osimhen scored the equaliser in the 81st minute with a powerful header.
Osimhen’s goal was his 23rd goal for Nigeria, tying him with Nigerian legend Segun Odegbami as the second-highest scorer in Super Eagles history.
Boniface’s lighthearted comment once again reflects the bond among Nigerian players, coming after Super Falcons’ Michelle Alozie also praised the Galatasaray man.
With this draw, Nigeria has already secured their place in the upcoming AFCON tournament, making their final qualifying match against Rwanda less critical but still important for building momentum.
As Osimhen continues to chase Rashidi Yekini’s record of 37 goals, Boniface’s encouragement serves as a reminder of the strong bond within the Super Eagles squad.
The team will look to harness this unity and determination as they look to finish the AFCONQ2025 on a high and prepare for the tournament proper next year
