VID; Man Impersonating NBA Player Steals $770,000 Worth Of Jewelry And Swallows It During Arrest

A 32-year-old Texas man allegedly stole two pairs of diamond earrings worth nearly $770,000 from an Orlando shopping center before swallowing them during his arrest along a Florida highway. Law enforcement officers are now waiting for the items to pass naturally in order to retrieve the stolen jewelry.
An X-ray of the suspect’s torso revealed a bright white mass inside his digestive system, which Orlando police believe to be the missing Tiffany & Co. earrings. According to the arrest report, the earrings will need to be “collected” once they have been excreted. The suspect was placed under medical supervision, as indicated by a handwritten note on his commitment document filed on March 3, which referenced “outside medical” care.
The theft took place on February 26 at a high-end Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando. The suspect reportedly posed as a potential buyer, claiming he was purchasing diamond jewelry on behalf of an Orlando Magic basketball player. Sales associates took him to a VIP room, where he was shown the earrings and a diamond ring valued at $587,000. However, instead of completing a transaction, he suddenly leaped from his chair, grabbed the jewelry, and attempted to flee.
As he forced his way toward the exit, a sales associate tried to block him. In the struggle, the employee was injured but managed to knock the diamond ring out of the suspect’s hands, preventing him from stealing it. The suspect then escaped with the earrings.
Investigators later identified his vehicle using security footage from the shopping center and tracked his movements using highway tag readers. Florida state troopers monitored his car as it traveled west along the Florida Turnpike and Interstate 10. The vehicle was ultimately stopped in Washington County, approximately 550 kilometers away from Orlando, after officers noticed it was being driven without rear lights.
During the arrest, the suspect was seen swallowing multiple objects, which authorities suspected to be the stolen earrings. Following his apprehension, he was charged with first-degree felony grand theft and robbery with a mask, which is classified as a third-degree felony.
As of March 6, court records showed that the suspect remained in police custody in Orange County, Florida, where Orlando is located. No attorney was listed for his defense. Authorities continue to monitor his condition as they await the retrieval of the valuable jewelry.
