“We should not be importing food” – Wale Edu

Nigeria is poised to significantly lessen its reliance on food imports, as announced by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun. He presented an ambitious plan aimed at enhancing local agricultural production and improving food security in the country.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday to celebrate the nation’s 64th Independence Day, Edun emphasized the necessity of concluding the period of substantial food imports. He framed this transition as a fundamental element of the government’s strategy for economic recovery.
He said, “We should not be importing food.
“It is critical that we do not disrupt domestic production of food. It is critical that we do not disrupt farming in Nigeria by flooding the market with imports.
“This is not where we should be.”
