Weeks To Governorship Election, Gunmen Assassinate Senior Assistant To Edo House Of Assembly Speaker

A Senior Special Assistant to the Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, has been killed by some gunmen.
The deceased has been identified as Samson Omoarebokhae.
This development comes few weeks to the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024, although it is unclear if the killing has anything to do with the upcoming elections.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the Speaker on Media, Ivy Adodo-Ebojele.
It was noted that Omoarebokhae was killed on August 31 while on his way to Uhumora from Ozalla in Owan West Local Government of the state.
The statement by the office of the speaker noted that a delegation had been dispatched for a condolence visit to the family of the deceased.
The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Odion Iruobe, who led the delegation, described his death as a great loss to the Assembly, the PDP and the people of Owan West Local Government.
“Though it is a painful situation, we pray to God in His infinite power to give the family a reason to smile again.”
“We pray to God to repose the soul of the deceased and give the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” she said.
The deceased family led by Elijah Omoarebokhai, who is a brother to the deceased, expressed the family’s appreciation to the speaker for sending the delegation to share with them in their period of grief.
Edo state police spokesperson, Chidi Nwabuzor, when contacted, stated he couldn’t confirm the development as he is on a course and not on ground as of the time of filing the report.
