We’ll defeat bandits soon, says Air chief

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Amao, has assured Nigerians that the battle against bandits and other criminals will soon be won.
“I wish to assure Nigerians that we are working assiduously to ensure that lasting peace is restored to all troubled parts of the country,” he said.
He identified some challenges in the fight against banditry and insurgency.
Amao spoke at the launch of the book: 52-week Devotional – The Amazing Life written by an aviation expert, Damilola Ogunseye in Lagos.
Amao, who chaired the event, said: “I assure you that the Federal Government is doing what it is expected to do.
“I also assure you that President Muhammadu Buhari has given us in the military all we want to ensure that the problem of insecurity in the nation is resolved.
“However, most of our equipment cannot be bought on the shelf.
“They have to be manufactured. For example, the Super Tucano jets that were paid for more than three years ago were just received. This is the issue with the military.”
Amao added that the issue of bureaucracy cannot also be ruled out with the sellers of arms.
He said that the military has carried out several operations but would not disclose all of their strategies.
“Speaking as the Chief of Air Staff, member of the National Security Council and National Defence Council, I wish to assure Nigerians that we are working assiduously to ensure that lasting peace is restored to all troubled parts of the country, such that the current security challenges we are experiencing will soon become a thing of the past.
“However, as we are all enjoined in the Scriptures, we earnestly covet your prayers, not just for us but for the entire leadership, starting with our dear President Muhammadu Buhari, for God’s wisdom, grace and enablement to steer the affairs of the nation towards unity, peace and prosperity.
“I also believe that according to the scriptures, God will make all things work for the good of Nigeria,” he said.
Ogunseye said the inspiration for the book was divine and came when he was on his way from New York to Nigeria.
