We’ll give our best despite tough times — Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has stated that his administration will persist in delivering its best to the state’s people despite the challenging times.
The governor made these remarks on Thursday during the presentation of 28 18-seater buses to tertiary institutions in the state, held at the car park of the Governor’s Office, State Secretariat, Agodi in Ibadan.
While addressing the students, Governor Makinde, acknowledging the tough period the country is going through, assured that this phase would soon pass. He added that his administration would not falter in providing the best for the state and its people.
The governor expressed sensitivity to the hardships faced by the students due to the tough times, encouraging them to endure, as he believed the difficulties would soon be a thing of the past.
He also mentioned signing the state scholarship and bursary awards for 2024, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring seamless and integrity-driven disbursement.

Encouraging students to cooperate with their institutions’ leadership, he expressed appreciation for the uncommon support he has received from them since the beginning of his administration.
Governor Makinde highlighted that ‘Omituntun,’ representing his political philosophy, has evolved into a movement that will transcend 2027. He stated, “Omituntun is not about Seyi Makinde anymore. It is now a movement, and at various times, different people will come to lead that movement.”
The governor announced the revival of his personal scholarship scheme, which was halted upon assuming office. He explained, “So the Seyi Makinde Scholarship Scheme will be in the paper in the next four weeks and will be disbursed in the next eight weeks.”
In an earlier speech, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, Victor Olojede, commended Governor Makinde for the unprecedented donation of buses to all tertiary institutions, describing it as a historic gesture in Nigeria.
Leaders representing the students also commended Governor Makinde’s generosity towards state students, hailing him as the most student-friendly governor. The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, commissioners, and other dignitaries.
