Why Airplane Spotted On Ikeja Road May Be Converted Into A Restaurant

Lagosians were in shock and disbelief on Tuesday night when commuters on the Oshodi-Agege (Ikeja Along) road spotted an aeroplane being towed, causing heavy gridlock.
It was gathered that the plane, an Airbus A320 jet belonging to First Nation, was sold as scrap and was being told to Oyo State to a yet-to-be-identified buyer.
According to The PUNCH, the unknown buyer of the plane towed the equipment to a town in Oyo where it will be probably converted to a restaurant or other purposes, airport sources close to the deal revealed.
Sources revealed that a third party had got a court injunction to sell the plane in order to recover certain costs, with the aircraft sold as scrap for less than N50m. This was after its engine and electronics had been removed.
One of the drivers of the three lorries towing the fragmented plane told The PUNCH on Wednesday that the equipment was being taken to Oyo State.
Recall that the National Assembly had recently directed aviation agencies to remove unserviceable and disused planes from the nation’s airports, saying they were constituting safety hazards.
It was gathered that First Nation has not flown for over four years since it packed up.
