Why Akpabio wants to leave PDP – Source
– A PDP source who spoke in confidence has confirmed that Senator Godswill Akpabio is considering leaving the party
– According to the source, Akpabio is being threatened and is under pressure
– The source claims the Senate minority leader doesn’t want to be in EFCC’s net at all
A source in the Peoples Democratic Party claims the Senate minority leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is considering leaving the party because of multiple cases he has with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to The Punch report, the source alleged that the Akapabio is being threatened with the use of EFCC against him if he did not work to deliver his state, Akwa Ibom, for the ruling party in 2019.
The source said: “What is happening is that the APC has threatened to deal with him, using the EFCC and he doesn’t want that at all.
“Although, we are all pleading with him not to leave the party (PDP), but he is afraid. He doesn’t want to be in EFCC’s net at all. He is really under pressure but we hope that he would listen to us.”
In an earlier report by TRACK NEWS, Akpabio was said to have met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo in Aso Rock for two hours. This meeting sparked rumours that the former governor was planning to leave the PDP for the ruling APC.
There are indications that he is in serious talks with the APC and might dump his party, once the “terms” are wrapped up.
This move is said to have unsettled the PDP as analysts believe it will be a major boost for President Muhammadu Buhari in the south-south ahead of the 2019 election.
