Why Can’t You Scold Wike Given That Most Of You Are Older Than Him? Sowunmi Tackles PDP BoT

Segun Sowunmi, a former governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has expressed concern over how the party’s leadership is managing the situation involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. He pointed out that the repeated visits by the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) to Wike have not yielded any meaningful results.

Sowunmi questioned why the BoT continues to use the same approach without addressing Wike’s alleged anti-party activities. He also criticized the party leadership for focusing solely on Wike while failing to engage with other aggrieved members within the PDP.

In his challenge to the PDP BoT, Sowunmi reminded them that, as the conscience of the party, they bear a responsibility to address the ongoing crisis effectively. He highlighted that most members of the BoT are older than Wike and should have the courage to confront him about unacceptable behaviors.

“I cannot comprehend how the individuals claiming to be the BoT believe they can resolve the issues facing the country and our democracy using the same mindset that contributed to them. First and foremost, we must question why they are singling Wike out. Why have we not heard them address other, more aggrieved members? Is this the first, second, or third time they are visiting him? Why haven’t they shown the backbone to confront him, considering that most of them are his seniors? Are they so reluctant or fearful to tell him that certain behaviors are unacceptable?

“We regard them as the conscience of the party, so ideally, they should have an institutional memory of the party’s history. However, I doubt they have any clear vision for its future. I wish them well and hope they can propose reasonable solutions. Nevertheless, I believe they should adopt a more direct approach to addressing the whole issue,” Sowunmi said during an interview with Daily Post published on Friday.
