Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has explained why the All Progressives Congress (APC) chose a Muslim-Muslim candidate as its presidential candidate, TrackNews reports.
Tinubu, he said, chose former Borno State Governor Senator Kashim Shettima to discourage religious consideration.

The Kano State Governor stated this to journalists on Friday at the Unguwar Sabo Juma’at Mosque in Osogbo, Osun State.

He stated that religion should not be on Nigerians’ minds because the country is facing challenges such as a poor economy, unemployment, and other developmental issues, but not religion.

“We advised him (Tinubu) to choose a Muslim as his running mate to put an end to religious consideration in Nigerian politics,” Ganduje said.

“We, the northern governors, are adamant that a presidential candidate must come from the South in order to eliminate all of these differences.”

According to TrackNews, Tinubu has come under fire for selecting another Muslim like himself as his running mate ahead of the election.

Many individuals, organizations, and political leaders have urged the former Lagos State Governor to drop Senator Shettima as his running mate.

However, the deadline for name substitution set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) expired on Friday, June 15th.
