Why US Speaker, Pelosi visited Taiwan – Russian president, Putin
Adeleye Kunle Reports
According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s recent visit to Taiwan is part of a deliberate US strategy to destabilize the region, TrackNews reports.
Putin stated that the visit was not made by a single politician but was part of a larger strategy.
In defiance of Chinese threats, Pelosi visited Taiwan earlier this month.
“The US was attempting to destabilize the situation in the Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world,” Putin said during his speech at the 10th annual Moscow Conference on International Security, according to TrackNews.
Putin described the move as a brazen display of disrespect for other countries’ sovereignty and international obligations, as well as a carefully planned provocation.
Speaking at the conference’s start on Tuesday, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that Pelosi’s provocative landing in Taiwan was yet another step toward destabilizing the region.
