Why we prefer Ambode to Sanwo-Olu – Lagosians speak

TRACKING_____Since the ban of tricycle and bike on major roads in Lagos by the state government, Lagosians have been expressing their disappointment with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Some have started lamenting the failure of the current governor of Lagos State, saying the administration of ex-governor Akinwunmi Ambode was better than the present administration.
Recall that a lot of Lagosians lost their means of livelihood when the state government clamped down on tricycle and bike.
The government justified its action by saying it made the decision because of the accidents, deaths and disorderliness tricycle and bike were causing in Lagos State.
Dennis Chukwumerije is a Lagos-based sculptor and supporter of former governor Akinwunmi Ambode. Chukwumerije said Lagosians are in for hard times for allowing the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to impose Sanwo-Olu on them.
He said: “Lagos is a state controlled by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. This man has done more harm than good in Lagos State. The only thing he did that was commendable was making Akinwunmi Ambode the governor of Lagos State. But he messed things up when he didn’t allow that brilliant man to go for a second term.
“No doubt, Ambode stepped on toes, but he would have been the best governor Lagos State has ever produced if he was given a second term. Sanwo-Olu has only brought suffering to Lagosians by banning tricycle and bike. His government will be the worst in Lagos State.”
Taiwo Adeyemi agreed with Chukwumerije that Sanwo-Olu would be worst governor Lagos has ever produced.
Even though Adeyemi would have preferred Ambode to continue ruling, he said ex-governor Babatunde Raji Fashola is the best governor Lagos has ever produced.
He said he wished the constitution allows for a third term so that Fashola would have had the opportunity to recontest after his second tenure expired.
A student of Lagos State University (LASU) who craved anonymity said the gravest mistake Lagosians made was voting for Sanwo-Olu.
She said: “I miss Ambode’s administration. Sanwo-Olu is clueless. The gravest mistake Lagosians made was voting for Sanwo-Olu.
“Sanwo-Olu is unaware of the plight of Lagosians. Ambode would never have done what Sanwo-Olu did. The Lagos State governor has destroyed so many families with what he has done.”
According to a lawyer who only wanted to be identified as Jane, Governor Sanwo-Olu did the right thing by banning tricycle and bike.
Jane said that the governor was only trying to protect the people of Lagos State from accidents caused by tricycle and bike.
She said: “The governor knows what he’s doing. He cares about the wellbeing of the people of Lagos State. The number of accidents tricycle and bike cause on a daily basis is killing Lagosians.
“It is understandable that people will feel the pain of the ban, but it is for our own safety. I’m sure accidents will reduce on our roads. I just wish Lagosians will understand that our governor means well for all of us.”
