World Leaders Congratulate Djibouti on the Occasion of its Anniversary

The United States Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken joined other world leaders to felicitate with the people of Djibouti on the 45th anniversary of its independence.
In a statement issued today, the United States says it “appreciates the close partnership between our governments and warm friendship between our peoples”
Adding that Djibouti has made invaluable contributions to promote shared ideals and “the United States remains committed to working together toward a bright future that includes greater peace and economic opportunity for both of our nations.”
Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also issued a congratulatory message to his Djibouti counterpart Ismail Omar Guelleh, stating that Djibouti is shoulder that the Somali Nation relies on.
He also appreciated the role that the Horn of Africa Nation played in the rebuilding of Statehood in Somalia after the collapse of its government in 1991.
“Our brothers and sisters in Djibouti, you are a shoulder we rely on. We share a history and culture. We appreciate your role in rebuilding Somalia’s statehood,” the president said in an official statement.
Speaker of the House of People of the Federal parliament Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur reiterates Somalia’s solidarity with Djibouti and underscored the milestones Djibouti achieved in the areas of social, financial and infrastructure.
“Today Djibouti is not only celebrating the end and defeating of colonial rule, but it has also achieved huge milestones in social, financial, and infrastructure sectors in the last 45 years,” the speaker’s office noted in the statement.
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman and his son, Prince Mohammed, also felicitated with the President and people of the Republic of Djibouti.
“King Salman sends an open message of congratulations to the President of the Republic of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, and the people of Djibouti on the occasion of Independence Day, which marks the 45th anniversary of independence from France. We wish him progress, prosperity and stability,” the statement said.
From Morocco, His Majesty King Mohammed VI equally felicitated with the people of the republic, reaffirming his determination to continue to work together with President Guelleh to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various areas.
Every year, Djibouti observes June 27 as the country’s declaration of independence from France. An independence referendum was held in the French Territory of the Afars and the Issas on May 8, 1977 alongside elections for a Constituent Assembly.
