Yobe APC will challenge Machina’s court victory.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Despite Senate President Ahmad Lawan’s decision not to challenge Wednesday’s Federal High Court ruling recognizing Bashir Machina as the All Progressives Congress candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District in the 2023 election, the ruling party’s state chapter said the ruling was unacceptable. Yobe State Party Chairman Alh. Mohammed Gadaka has stated that the party will appeal the Federal High Court ruling issued on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by Gadaka in Abuja on Friday, the President of the Senate is the genuine APC candidate for the Yobe North Senatorial District election, as recognized by the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) led by Sen. Abdullahi Adamu.
“The Yobe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has decided to appeal the Federal High Court ruling in the interest of Yobe State, Nigeria, and good governance.” “We must protect and sustain Senator Ahmed Lawan’s exemplary tenure as a lawmaker, as well as his impeccable record of leadership and patriotism – and commitment to making Nigeria work,” the party insisted.
Justice Fadima Murtala Aminu of the Federal High Court in Damaturu, Yobe State, declared Machina the APC candidate for Yobe North Senatorial District on Wednesday. In a statement issued in response to the court decision on Thursday, Senate President said he would not appeal the decision and has accepted Machina as the rightful candidate. “I have decided not to appeal the judgment after consulting with my political associates, supporters, and well-wishers.” ‘I accept the verdict,’ he said.
