Yobe govt commences vaccination of 7 million livestock against anthrax

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State says 1.5 million doses of Anthrax Spore Vaccine (ASV) have been procured for the vaccination of 7 million livestock across the State.
Buni disclosed this at the launching of mass vaccination of livestock in Kukareta community, Damaturu Local Government Area of the State.
He said at this period of the year, there is always a high rate of movement of pastoralists, hence the expectation is to work against the spread of Trans-boundary Animal Diseases (TADs).
“We have decided to take this proactive measure to protect our people and livestock, and to safeguard the economy of our livestock farmers,” Buni said.
The Governor also enjoined all veterinary doctors, animal health workers and other stakeholders to work hard to ensure that all nooks and crannies of the State were fully covered in the State-wide exercise.
“Yobe State is no doubt one of the leading states with a high population of livestock in the country.
“We shall continue to take proactive measures against the outbreak of animal diseases and to give full protection to our livestock,” he stressed.
He appealed to all the relevant federal and state agencies to closely monitor the movement of herdsmen from other countries into Nigeria to further boost the prevention of Anthrax and other diseases.
