“You have a better future than us” FEDPOFFA Rector encourages students during campaign against Sex for Grade

TRACKING____The Management of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Kwara State led by Dr. Lateef Olatunji has launched a campaign against sex for grade in Nigeria. The campaign which was held at the polytechnic main campus on Wednesday, 29th,2020 captured various departments in the institution.
During the campaign, the rector charges students to take their academics seriously and work for their grade instead of engaging in sexual means. According to him: ” The Federal Polytechnic Offa is changing on a daily basis and the management and staff of the Polytechnic sternly frown at sexual harassment. This campaign is therefore staged to serve a note of warning to both staff and students that the polytechnic will not condone any act of indicipline. The Disciplinary Committee set up by the management is always ready to take it up with any erring staff or student. So, work for your mark and earn good grade.”
It is unarguable that, sex for grade has been a topical issue and happening intermittently in Nigeria tertiary institutions. Professors, Lecturers have been victims based on different media reportage. As a result of this, The Management of Federal Polytechnic Offa has taken the campaign to nooks and crannies of the polytechnic’s ambience as a proactive measure to curb the menace.
While commending the Head of Mass Communication Department, Mr. Wole Alawode and students of the department for initiating such rife idea, the Deputy Rector Administration, Dr. Olarongbe Afolabi enjoins students to stay away from anti social activities. He said: “As far as this polytechnic is concern, the Management has resolved to curb all forms of anti social activities that is pervasive in Nigeria tertiary institutions. Although, it takes two to tangle, as we have sex for mark, there is also mark for sex and if you are expecting the management to effect these changes, you must equally be ready to change. The Polytechnic is ready to work along the interest of the students.”
Furthermore, the Polytechnic Director of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Mr. Olayinka Iroye commends the management for joining hands together with the Directorate and Mass Communication Department to take the campaign to four corners of the polytechnic with a worthwhile colouration while the Head of Mass Communication Department, Mr. Wole Alawode assures the management of maximum cooperation from the department towards projecting and sustaining the good image of the polytechnic.
Mr. Alawode said : ” Mass Communication Department is known for good and laudable activities and we will not relent in putting our best in place with the management to move the Polytechnic forward. This is not our first campaign on salient issues in Nigeria and it would not be the last. We assure the Management that, Mass Communication Department will continue to wax stronger and blaze the trail in the area of academic excellence, professional projects and Cooperate Public Relations.”
