YST 2023: Adamu Cautions Machina

Mohammed Oluwatimileyin Taoheed reports,
Track News Nigeria has learnt that Abdullahi Adamu, the National Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) has given a strong warning to Bashir Machina over the party’s ticket for Yobe north senatorial district.
Recall that Machina who won the primary of the APC had insisted that he would not stoop low for Ahmad Lawan, the President of the Senate, in the 2023 general elections.
Lawan who had earlier contested in the presidential primary of the APC lost the ticket to Bola Tinubu.
TrackNews Nigeria gathered that the controversial issue over the ticket of the senatorial district sparked off when APC listed Lawan as the candidate for the district ahead of the election.
While speaking on the emergence of Lawan as the party’s candidate, Adamu noted that the Lawan participated in the primary for the district.
However, the APC Chairman in an interview on the matter as published by BBC Hausa, expressed the hope issue will be resolved.
He added, “There is no leader who doesn’t receive complaints from the people he is leading and no leader would leave his position because of what the people say.
“In my position as the leader, whatever has happened in the APC since the day I became chairman of the party, I, Abdullahi Adamu, should be blamed.
“If you don’t take the blame as a leader, then who should be blamed? As a leader, you are trying to resolve problems, not increase them.
“If you don’t know how to set a trap for a thief, the thief will set the trap for you. Machina should be careful; his issue is getting out of hand. As far as I am concerned as chairman, my party did not violate any law.
“Is there any law that says you cannot contest for a position after contesting for another one? No law prohibits anyone from doing so.”
