Yuletide: Gov. Diri Visits Former President, Goodluck Jonathan
***Thanks him for role in Nov.11 guber electoral victory
His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, yesterday paid a Christmas/New Year/Thank You visit to former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at his residence in Yenagoa.
Governor Diri while felicitating the former president on the festive season also thanked Dr. Jonathan for the role he played during the November 11, 2023 Bayelsa guber poll where he emerged victorious.
The Governor stated that his endorsement by the former President was more than billions of naira, stressing that it boosted his confidence going into the election.
“You recall that we went into very serious elections in this State, November 11th 2023 and building up to that election, of course, if there’s one number one person in this State that is recognised not only in our State but in our country and Africa and the world over, that is the former president that is sitting with us here today.
And Dr. Jonathan, as a Statesman, a father, looked at situations in the State and came to the inescapable conclusion that the Government of the day is doing well and therefore, he is going to throw his support behind the Government of the day.
He did that not secretly but openly the day I visited him in his country home at Otueke and the whole world saw that the former President of this country has endorsed the candidature of the sitting Governor. That is more than billions of Naira.
So, having secured that endorsement, we were very sure that no matter what happened, the only thing that would have removed us from office was God.
And we went into that battle and the former President pulled all that he could to our support and we came out victorious in that battle.
So, your Excellency, our people are here, your people are here to say thank you. Thank you for the roles that you played,” Governor Diri said.
In the entourage of the Governor were, Senator Konbowei Friday Benson, Senator representing Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Fred Agbedi, Sagbama-Ekeremor Federal Constituency, Hon.
