Zamfara: Police dispute number of deaths, abducted mothers, silent on actual figure

The Police Command in Zamfara State has denied reports of the murder of about 40 people and abduction of 70 nursing mothers.
The incident reportedly occurred early this week at Tungar Baushe in Maru Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Muhammad Shehu, advised Nigerians to ignore the “outrageous number being circulated”.
The spokesman, in his statement on Thursday, failed to provide the accurate figure.
Rather, he insisted the number quoted by the media was misleading and was meant to create fear in the minds of Zamfara residents.
Shehu said security teams were on an extensive bush combing of surrounding forests in an attempt to rescue the victims.
“Members of the public are enjoined to remain calm, discountenance the reported figures and assist security forces in the ongoing operations,” the PPRO added.
