Rabiu Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, has dismissed claims that he endorsed the alleged defection of Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano state, to the All Progressives Congress.

Kwankwaso described the reports as false, stressing that he has not changed his stance on the issue. He maintained that he did not approve or support any move by Yusuf or other NNPP members to join the APC.

Speculation has intensified in recent days over reports that Yusuf is finalising plans to leave the NNPP for the ruling party. The rumours gained momentum on Tuesday night following claims that Kwankwaso had reversed his earlier opposition to defections from the NNPP.

Kwankwaso had previously warned party members against defecting, insisting on the need to strengthen the NNPP as an alternative political platform. The Kano governor has not officially confirmed or denied the defection reports.
