Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved a minor reshuffle of his cabinet, resulting in the redeployment of several commissioners across key ministries in the state government. The changes were announced on Wednesday in Asaba and are expected to take immediate effect.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu. According to the statement, the reshuffle is part of ongoing efforts by the governor to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across ministries.

Under the new arrangement, Michael Anoka has been redeployed from the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Renewal to the Ministry of Energy. His reassignment places him in charge of a sector considered strategic to the state’s economic development.

Sunday Tataobuzogwu, who previously served as Commissioner for Energy, has been moved to the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Renewal. The redeployment effectively sees both commissioners swapping portfolios as part of the cabinet adjustment.

Rose Ezewu has also been affected by the reshuffle. She has been transferred from the Ministry of Secondary Education to the Ministry of Primary Education, where she will now oversee policies and programmes relating to basic education in the state.

In a corresponding move, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu has been redeployed from the Ministry of Primary Education to the Ministry of Secondary Education. The changes in the education sector are expected to enhance coordination and efficiency across both ministries.

The state government clarified that all the redeployments are with immediate effect. Commissioners affected by the reshuffle are expected to report to their new ministries without delay to continue the work of government.

Although described as a minor reshuffle, the changes reflect Governor Oborevwori’s continued review of his administration’s structure. The move is seen as part of routine adjustments aimed at aligning expertise with strategic priorities.
The statement did not indicate that any commissioner was removed from the cabinet. Instead, the reshuffle focused solely on redeployment, suggesting continuity in governance rather than a major overhaul.

Observers note that cabinet reshuffles are a common feature of governance, often used to reinvigorate performance and address emerging needs. In this case, the Delta State government has framed the changes as administrative and strategic.

In a related development, Governor Oborevwori has also approved the nomination of new members to the Governing Council of Delta State University, Abraka. The nominations form part of efforts to strengthen the management and oversight of the institution.

Those nominated are Festus Ovie Agas, Frank Enekorogha, and Charles Ajuyah, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The inclusion of a legal practitioner of Ajuyah’s standing is expected to add professional depth to the council.

The state government said the appointments are aimed at enhancing effective governance and decision-making within the university. The Governing Council plays a key role in shaping policy and ensuring administrative stability at the institution.
According to the statement, the date for the inauguration of the newly appointed governing council members will be announced at a later time. Until then, existing structures at the university are expected to continue functioning as usual.
Governor Oborevwori’s approval of both the cabinet reshuffle and the university council nominations highlights his administration’s focus on institutional management. The moves come amid ongoing efforts to consolidate governance across the state.

Since assuming office, the governor has emphasised efficiency, continuity, and development-oriented leadership. The latest decisions are seen as consistent with that approach.

The Delta State government has not indicated whether further changes are expected in the cabinet or other sectors. However, officials maintain that the administration will continue to make adjustments when necessary to meet its policy objectives.

As the redeployed commissioners assume their new roles, attention will be on how the changes impact the performance of the affected ministries. The government has expressed confidence that the reshuffle will contribute positively to service delivery across the state.
