Doris Uzoka-Anite has been reassigned to a new ministry, marking her third portfolio change in three years under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The latest move sees her deployed to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning as minister of state.
Her reassignment continues a pattern of frequent redeployments since her initial appointment in August 2023. Over the period, she has moved from a senior ministerial role to junior positions and has not spent up to two years in any single office.
Uzoka-Anite was first appointed as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment shortly after President Tinubu assumed office. She held the position for approximately one year and two months.
In October 2024, she was replaced by Jumoke Oduwole in a cabinet reshuffle. Following that change, Uzoka-Anite was redeployed to the Ministry of Finance.
At the finance ministry, she served as Minister of State for Finance under Wale Edun, who is the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Her appointment at the time was described as strategic in supporting the administration’s economic agenda.
Edun had stated that her experience would be instrumental in advancing ongoing economic initiatives. She remained in that role for about one year and four months.
In her latest redeployment, President Tinubu moved her to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. She will now serve as Minister of State for Budget and Planning under Atiku Bagudu.
The series of changes means Uzoka-Anite has transitioned from leading a ministry to serving in junior capacities within two different ministries. Her movement across portfolios reflects broader adjustments within the federal cabinet over the past three years.
Before joining the federal cabinet, Uzoka-Anite served at the state level in Imo State. She was the Commissioner for Finance and Coordinating Economy for approximately two and a half years.
Her tenure in Imo State preceded her nomination to the federal executive council. She left the state role to take up her appointment in Abuja.
Uzoka-Anite is a graduate of the University of Benin. Her professional background spans both the health and financial sectors.
She began her career in the medical field, working briefly as a medical officer at Providence Hospital. Her time there lasted five months, from June to October 2002.
After leaving the hospital, she transitioned into the banking sector. She joined Zenith Bank as an assistant banking officer.
Over the years, she rose through the ranks within the financial institution. She eventually became group head of treasury, a senior management position.
She left Zenith Bank in March 2021 after nearly two decades in the private sector. In total, she spent 19 years working in both the health and financial industries before moving fully into public service.
Her shift from private enterprise to public administration marked a significant career transition. Within a short period, she moved from state-level governance to a federal ministerial appointment.
Since August 2023, however, her federal roles have changed multiple times. Each redeployment has placed her in a different ministry, with adjustments in seniority.
Her first role as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment was a substantive cabinet position. Subsequent appointments in finance and now budget and planning have been as minister of state.
The frequent reshuffles have drawn attention to her evolving role within the administration. Despite the changes, she continues to serve within the federal executive council.
With her new assignment under the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Uzoka-Anite will work alongside Minister Atiku Bagudu. The ministry plays a central role in fiscal planning and economic coordination.
Her experience in finance and treasury management is expected to inform her contributions in the new position. The administration has not provided detailed reasons for the successive redeployments.
As she assumes her third ministerial portfolio in three years, Uzoka-Anite remains one of the cabinet members who have experienced multiple role adjustments under President Tinubu’s government.
