APC Campaign Council Dismisses Timi Frank’s Allegation, Says ADC Presidential Candidate’s Security Has Not Been Compromised

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has denied allegations of a plot to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing the claim as false and calling on its author, Timi Frank, to provide evidence to support his assertion.

In a press statement dated October 20, 2026, and signed by its spokesperson, Dele Alake, the council urged security agencies to invite Frank, a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to substantiate the allegation.

The council stressed that any credible threat to life should be investigated promptly, regardless of political affiliation.

It, however, categorically denied that President Bola Tinubu, the presidency or the APC Presidential Campaign Council was involved in any alleged plan to target Atiku or any opposition figure.

APC Council Says Atiku’s Security Remains Intact

The campaign council also rejected claims that security personnel attached to Atiku had been withdrawn, insisting that the former vice president remained protected by the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS).

According to the statement, President Tinubu had directed security agencies to strengthen protection for presidential, vice-presidential, governorship and deputy governorship candidates ahead of the 2027 general election.

The council further claimed that Atiku’s security arrangements had been reinforced and that his protection had not been compromised.

However, the claims regarding Atiku’s current security arrangements were presented by the APC campaign council in its statement.

Tinubu Recognises Opposition, Says APC Council

Defending the president, the council described Tinubu as a statesman and democrat who recognises the importance of opposition politics in Nigeria’s democratic system.

It recalled Tinubu’s role in the opposition movement that culminated in the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 presidential election.

The council accused Frank of making allegations capable of heightening political tension, arguing that politicians should avoid unsubstantiated claims that could inflame the political atmosphere.

It also criticised what it described as a tendency among some opposition figures to use open letters and social media appeals to attract international attention.

APC Urges Politicians to Avoid Political Tension

With political activities gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, the council called on candidates, political parties and their supporters to exercise restraint in their public statements.

It urged political actors to focus on issues affecting Nigerians and ensure that political competition remains peaceful, lawful and centred on policies rather than personal attacks.

The controversy highlights the importance of investigating credible threats against political figures while ensuring that allegations of political violence are supported by evidence.
