Former Enugu State Governor, Okwesilieze Nwodo, has acknowledged the popularity and influence of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, in the Southeast region of the country.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News Television, Nwodo recalled that during the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi was able to convince many Nigerians to vote for him.

He noted that Obi and the Obidient movement secured significant support across the Southeast, even outperforming the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a region where the party had long been dominant.

Nwodo added that many Nigerians believe Peter Obi garnered more votes in the 2023 election but was unfairly denied victory, following court judgements that ultimately favoured the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His words: “You will recall that in the immediate past election in 2023, Peter Obi singlehandedly, blazing the trail like John the Baptist crying in the wilderness, was able to convince the Nigerian people that he had something that can change the status quo that we were enduring under the Presidency of Buhari at the time.

“Many Nigerians believe that at the end of the day, he convinced more Nigerians and scored more votes in that election but wasn’t declared the winner, after the court processes accepted the results as declared.”
