Key political figures in Lagos State have thrown their support behind Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat’s potential governorship run in the 2027 election, describing him as capable of sustaining the state’s development.
Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, alongside Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who represents Lagos East, and former Finance Minister Wale Edun, publicly endorsed Hamzat’s aspiration. Their backing adds momentum to growing political support for the deputy governor.
The endorsements came as stakeholders in Badagry also rallied behind Hamzat, signaling widening grassroots and elite acceptance across parts of the state.
Abiru expressed strong confidence in Hamzat’s ability to lead Lagos, emphasizing his experience in governance and understanding of the state’s needs.
Edun supported the bid on the basis of Hamzat’s competence and track record in public service, noting that his administrative experience positions him well for higher responsibility.
Gbajabiamila also affirmed his support, highlighting Hamzat’s leadership qualities and capacity to deliver continuity in governance after Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s tenure.
Supporters argue that Hamzat’s familiarity with the workings of the current administration makes him a strong candidate to maintain policy consistency and ongoing development projects.
The endorsements are seen as an early signal of political alignments ahead of the 2027 Lagos governorship race.
