Community leaders across Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State have endorsed Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu for another tenure in the House of Representatives. The endorsement was conveyed through the Community Development Committee (CDC) chairmen representing the various communities within the LGA.

The declaration of support signals continued grassroots backing for Mutu, who currently represents the Bomadi/Patani Federal Constituency. Local leaders cited his long-standing presence in the National Assembly and his contributions to constituency development as reasons for their decision.

Nicholas Mutu has served in the House of Representatives since 1999, making him Nigeria’s longest-serving federal legislator. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a consistent political figure within Delta State, maintaining electoral success across multiple election cycles.

He previously served as Chairman of the House Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) from 2009 to 2019. During that period, he played a central role in overseeing legislative matters concerning development initiatives in the Niger Delta region.

Mutu’s political journey has been marked by party loyalty, as he remained with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) throughout his career until recently. His consistent re-election under the PDP platform distinguished him among his peers in Nigerian politics.

However, a major shift has now occurred in his political alignment. Mutu has officially left the PDP and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a significant development ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The defection comes at a time when political realignments are intensifying across the country. Observers note that such moves could reshape political dynamics within Delta State, particularly in constituencies with long-standing incumbents.

Despite spending over two decades in the National Assembly, Mutu has maintained strong ties with his constituency. His continued support from community leaders suggests that his influence at the grassroots level remains intact.

By 2027, Mutu is expected to have completed 28 years as a federal lawmaker if re-elected. This milestone would further cement his position as one of the most enduring figures in Nigeria’s legislative history.

His contemporaries from the early years of the Fourth Republic have largely moved on to other political roles, including governorships and Senate positions. Mutu, however, has remained in the House of Representatives, focusing on legislative duties and constituency representation.

The endorsement by CDC chairmen is seen as a strategic move to consolidate local support ahead of future elections. Community leaders emphasized continuity and experience as key factors behind their decision.

Political analysts suggest that Mutu’s defection to the APC could attract new alliances while testing existing loyalties within his constituency. The shift may also influence voter sentiment as the next election cycle approaches.

As preparations for 2027 gradually begin, Mutu’s political future will likely depend on how effectively he navigates both his new party environment and the expectations of his constituents.
