A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State and former senator who represented Bayelsa East in the 9th National Assembly, Senator Biobarakuma Degi, has praised Governor Douye Diri for what he described as unprecedented achievements in infrastructure development across the state.

Degi made the remarks while speaking with journalists in Yenagoa, expressing enthusiasm over the planned visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Bayelsa State. The president is expected to commission several key projects executed by the Diri administration.

According to Degi, the governor’s performance in infrastructure delivery has set a new benchmark in the state, earning him the description of a “record breaker.” He said Bayelsans are eager to receive the president and showcase the projects that have significantly transformed the state’s landscape.

He highlighted some of the projects lined up for commissioning to include the 60-megawatt gas turbine, the newly constructed Yenagoa City Road, and the 630-metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge. These projects, he noted, are critical to improving power supply, transportation, and connectivity within the state.

Beyond these flagship projects, Degi said the Diri administration has embarked on numerous other high-impact infrastructural initiatives aimed at boosting economic activities and enhancing public service delivery. He emphasized that these projects are designed to support long-term development and address longstanding challenges in the state.

The former senator gave special mention to the Nembe-Brass Road project, describing it as a historic undertaking that had remained unimplemented for decades. He noted that the project dates back to the military era under General Yakubu Gowon in the early 1970s but had not seen meaningful progress until the current administration.

Degi commended Governor Diri for demonstrating determination in executing the road project despite the difficult terrain, which includes vast mangrove swamps and challenging environmental conditions. He said the ongoing construction reflects a strong commitment to opening up previously inaccessible parts of the state.

He further explained that the Nembe-Brass Road alignment is of strategic importance to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. The route connects critical national assets, including facilities linked to the Brass crude oil export terminal.

According to him, completion of the road will enhance surveillance, improve security coordination, and ensure more efficient management of oil and gas infrastructure in the area. He added that these improvements could have positive implications for national revenue generation.

Degi also noted that improved road connectivity would stimulate economic growth in coastal communities by facilitating trade, movement of goods, and access to essential services. He described the project as a game changer for both Bayelsa State and the broader Niger Delta region.

The APC chieftain expressed optimism that the president’s visit would further draw national attention to the developmental strides being recorded in Bayelsa. He said the commissioning of the projects would serve as a testament to effective governance and commitment to public welfare.

He concluded by offering prayers for both Governor Diri and President Tinubu, wishing them wisdom, protection, and continued success in their leadership roles. Degi said he hopes their efforts will contribute to sustained progress and unity in Bayelsa State and Nigeria as a whole.
