A 30-year-old man identified as Sunday Ejor has been accused of killing his 26-year-old live-in partner, Lucy Moshe Igu, in Ekajuk community, located in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State. The incident reportedly occurred on March 29, 2026, and has caused widespread outrage among residents.

According to reports, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim during a domestic dispute that escalated into violence. Authorities say the woman suffered multiple fatal injuries before her body was taken and abandoned in a nearby bush.

Sources familiar with the case stated that Ejor had previously been living in Lagos before returning to his hometown under unclear circumstances. It was further alleged that he may have fled Lagos after being linked to another murder case, although this claim has not yet been officially confirmed by law enforcement authorities.

After returning to Ekajuk, he reportedly began cohabiting with the victim, who was originally from Abrumbede in the same community. Their relationship was said to have been marked by frequent disagreements, particularly over allegations of infidelity raised by the suspect.

On the day of the incident, tensions between the couple reportedly reached a breaking point. Witnesses and community members indicated that a heated argument erupted, which allegedly turned violent. During the altercation, Ejor is accused of using a machete to attack Lucy, inflicting severe and ultimately fatal injuries.

Following the attack, the suspect allegedly attempted to conceal the crime by dragging the victim’s body into a nearby bush. He is said to have fled the area immediately afterward, leaving behind a trail that would later lead to the discovery of the body.

Residents became aware of the situation after noticing bloodstains and signs of disturbance in the area. This prompted a search, during which Lucy’s remains were found. The discovery has since intensified fear and anger within the community.

The body of the deceased has been deposited at the General Hospital in Ogoja, where it is awaiting an autopsy to determine the full extent and cause of death.

Family members of the victim have described her as a calm and hardworking individual whose life was cut short under tragic circumstances. They have called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that the suspect is apprehended and brought to justice.

Community leaders have also condemned the killing, describing it as a brutal and unacceptable act. The Chairman of the Ekajuk Community Development Association expressed concern over the incident, urging security agencies to act swiftly in tracking down the suspect. He warned that such acts of violence pose a serious threat to the peace and safety of residents in the area.

The Nigeria Police Force in Cross River State has confirmed that an investigation is ongoing. Police spokesperson DSP Irene Ugbo stated that a manhunt has been launched to locate and arrest the suspect.

She noted that law enforcement agencies are collaborating with relevant security networks across the state and beyond to ensure the suspect is apprehended. She also urged members of the public to provide any useful information that could assist in the investigation.

The case has drawn attention to increasing concerns about gender-based violence in parts of Cross River State. Advocacy groups have reiterated the need for stronger measures to protect vulnerable individuals, particularly women, and to ensure that perpetrators of such crimes are held accountable.

As investigations continue, residents of Ekajuk and surrounding areas have been advised to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies. The community continues to mourn the loss of Lucy Moshe Igu, whose death has left a deep impact on those who knew her.
