Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal Directorate 2, Ikoyi, have commenced investigation into a suspected fake lawyer, John Anoruo, over possession of a forged Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal.

Anoruo, who runs a legal and educational consultancy in Ikorodu, Lagos, was arrested on Monday, April 20, 2026.

The case originated after he submitted a petition dated September 22, 2025, to the EFCC on behalf of clients against Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.

Investigations, however, revealed that both the petition and a subsequent withdrawal letter dated March 5, 2026 carried a forged NBA seal.

The suspect reportedly confessed to obtaining the seal from an undisclosed business centre in Lagos.

During questioning, the 55-year-old claimed he obtained a law degree in 2018 from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, but did not attend the Nigerian Law School, a mandatory requirement to practice law in Nigeria

EFCC confirmed that he will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
