Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory, has been petitioned to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) over allegations that she collected $65,000 from a businessman to secure a government contract that never materialized.
The petition, filed on April 27, 2026, by lawyer Elochukwu Obi on behalf of Nonso Okafor, claims the money—worth about N118 million at the time—was paid in October 2024 after assurances that contracts would be facilitated.
According to the complaint, the deal was arranged through the senator’s Senior Legislative Aide, Osereme Omofoma, who allegedly pressured Okafor to raise the funds, which he borrowed at high interest.
Months after payment, no contract was awarded. When Okafor demanded a refund, the petition alleges the senator denied receiving the money before later authorizing a partial repayment of N50 million in May 2025.
The businessman insists he is still owed N68 million and claims he was pressured to accept the partial refund as full settlement, alongside alleged threats of arrest if he pursued the balance.
The petition argues the contract offer was a false pretense used to obtain money, and it calls on the ICPC to investigate, recover the outstanding funds, and determine whether laws were violated.
Neither Senator Kingibe nor the ICPC has issued an official response as of the time of reporting.
