A 65-year-old transport manager, Chief Augustine Nwalieze, has been killed at his residence in the Ajah area of Lagos in a suspected homicide involving a domestic worker. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday morning as the victim was preparing to attend church.

Concern arose when family members noticed unusual inactivity at the compound. Nwalieze’s vehicles remained parked, and repeated calls to his phone went unanswered. He had earlier gone downstairs to a car park area that housed vehicle spare parts and a solar panel, but did not return.

Suspicion quickly focused on the household’s gateman, who allegedly gave conflicting accounts of the victim’s whereabouts. He initially claimed Nwalieze had left with a friend, but this was contradicted when the individual denied any such arrangement. The gateman later fled the premises, intensifying concerns about his involvement.

A search of the property led to the discovery of Nwalieze in a downstairs apartment with multiple machete wounds to his head and body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

The family, described as devastated, has since moved his remains to his hometown for burial arrangements. The case has been reported to the police, who have visited the scene and launched an investigation.

As of the time of reporting, the Lagos State Police Command had not issued an official statement, and no motive has been confirmed. The suspect remains at large, with authorities urging the public to provide information that could aid in his arrest.

The incident has heightened concerns about security in private residences, particularly those involving domestic staff. Meanwhile, residents have called for a thorough investigation and swift justice.
