The Chief Executive Officer of Faks Media, Ohis Asein, has thrown weights behind the Commissioner for Sports Development, Bayelsa State, Daniel Igali, commending his overall contributions to Sports development in Bayelsa and beyond.
Ohis’ statement comes on the heels of a series of backlash on the Sports Commissioner following the relegation of Bayelsa United from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) last weekend
Speaking in a Yenagoa based radio station on Wednesday, the CEO Faks Media described Daniel Igali as an overall sports commissioner whose role is not defined by football alone.
He noted that Igali supervises over 40 sports in the Ministry of Sports, hence the criticisms he received in the past couple of days have been unfair and uncalled for, stressing the impact of Igali has helped to reposition sports in Bayelsa State.
“I followed Bayelsa United from the beginning of the season, and I noticed the consistency in performance and organisation. And for some sections to criticise the Commissioner, i will never support that because the Commissioner is not the Commissioner of football but Commissioner of sports.”
“When you look at Bayelsa State, other sports are doing well. So, why would someone say that because one angle didn’t do well, you put it on the Commissioner. In Bayelsa United, there’s a management board led by the chairman. They have Technical Advisers, and other coaching crews. For me, nobody should blame the Commissioner.” Ohis said.
Ohis concluded by stating that in terms of perfect sporting administration, Igali has put Bayelsa’s name on the map for global recognition. He acknowledged the positive effectiveness of Igali in both nation and international events the state athletes have participated in and how Bayelsa is perceived among Nigerian sports administrators
