Bayelsa Vigilante Chairman Advocates Peace, Unity at Odi Youth Day Celebration

The Chairman of the Bayelsa State Vigilante Service, Hon. Doubiye Alagba, has called on the youths of Odi Kingdom to remain peaceful, reject violence, drug abuse and other forms of criminality, while embracing responsible leadership and community development.

Hon. Alagba made the call on Wednesday while representing his friend and brother, the Chairman of the occasion, Engr. Ade Deiya Babalola Subi, at the 2026 Odi Youth Day Celebration, one of the highlights of the Odi Ogoriba Uge International Festival. Engr. Subi, a prominent son of Odi Kingdom, was unavoidably absent.

Addressing the gathering, Alagba commended the youths of Odi Kingdom for sustaining peace and harmony over the years, describing their conduct as commendable and worthy of emulation. He noted that the Odi Ogoriba Uge Festival has grown into an internationally recognized cultural celebration that promotes the rich heritage, customs and history of the Ijaw people, while fostering unity and attracting visitors from within and outside Nigeria.

He urged the youths to continue upholding the values of discipline, hard work and integrity, stressing that these virtues are indispensable for anyone aspiring to leadership and making meaningful contributions to society. According to him, the future of Odi Kingdom and the Ijaw nation rests on a generation of young people committed to peace, development and positive change.

Hon. Alagba also conveyed the goodwill message of Engr. Ade Deiya Babalola Subi to the people of Odi Kingdom, thanking them for their continued support for the annual festival and encouraging them to remain united in advancing the peace, cultural heritage and development of the kingdom.
