Former Minister of Power and governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Adebayo Adelabu, on Tuesday declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, rejecting moves to impose a consensus candidate.

Adelabu made the declaration during a meeting with the Oyo APC State Executive Council at the party secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan. He said he was confident of securing the party’s ticket and winning the governorship election.

He explained that the visit was to formally inform party leaders of his ambition and reaffirm his loyalty to the APC and commitment to the development of Oyo State.

Adelabu stressed the need for internal democracy within the party, insisting that all aspirants should be allowed to contest freely rather than adopting a consensus arrangement.

He also urged party members to remain united and work together to strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 election.
