Host communities have issued a two-week ultimatum to Heritage Energy Operational Services Limited (HEOSL) to address outstanding debts, employment demands and pending community development projects.
The communities warned that failure by the company to resolve the issues within the stipulated period could trigger protests.
They are demanding action on outstanding financial obligations, employment opportunities for indigenes and the implementation of development projects previously agreed with the affected communities.
The host communities said they expect Heritage Energy to engage their representatives and provide concrete solutions to the outstanding issues before the expiration of the ultimatum.
They further warned that they may resort to peaceful protests if the company fails to meet their demands within the two-week timeframe.
The development comes amid growing calls from oil-producing communities for companies operating in their areas to fulfil their obligations and improve the socio-economic wellbeing of host communities.
