The Central Zone of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) has paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Soroh in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, where the delegation was received by the Team Lead, Commodore Christian O. Akokota.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of IYC Central Zone, Dr. Enebraye Patrick Orusengha, expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Navy for its continued efforts in maintaining peace, safety and security across the waterways of Bayelsa State and its environs.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Enebraye Patrick Orusengha called for stronger collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and the Ijaw Youth Council, particularly in creating opportunities for the recruitment of qualified youths from the region into the Nigerian Navy and other components of the nation’s security architecture.
In his response, Commodore Christian O. Akokota thanked the IYC Central Zone delegation for the courtesy visit and congratulated Dr. Enebraye Patrick Orusengha on his election as Chairman of IYC Central Zone.
He assured the delegation of the Nigerian Navy’s continued commitment to safeguarding Bayelsa State and its waterways, while expressing the Navy’s readiness to strengthen its relationship with the Ijaw Youth Council in the interest of peace, security and sustainable development.
A significant highlight of the engagement was the presentation of a commemorative plaque to the IYC Central Zone in recognition of the visit. The plaque was received by the Chairman, Dr. Enebraye Patrick Orusengha.
The engagement reaffirmed the importance of constructive collaboration between youth leadership and security agencies in promoting peace, security, opportunities for young people and sustainable development across Bayelsa State.
