Amb. Hon. Michael Magbisa has obtained the Expression of Interest Form to contest for the Sagbama Constituency 2 seat in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
The move comes after wide consultations with political stakeholders, supporters, and community leaders across the constituency, amid growing calls for purposeful representation, people-centered leadership, and inclusive development.
Magbisa, a seasoned grassroots politician and mobiliser, has held several political and administrative positions in Bayelsa State over the years. He began his political career in 1997 when he was elected as a councillor under the platform of the Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM).
In 2005, he served as Special Adviser on Conflict Resolution and Legislative Matters, where he contributed to peace-building and governance-related engagements. He later served as Supervisor for Works, Transport and Housing in Sagbama Local Government Area in 2007.
His experience in local government administration further expanded when he became Chairman of Environmental Sanitation and Urban Town Planning in Sagbama Local Government Area in 2013. He subsequently served as Chairman of Sagbama Local Government from 2016 to 2017 and continued in office from 2017 to 2019.
Magbisa also served as Special Adviser on NGOs and Civil Society, a role that strengthened his relationship with community-based organisations and development groups within the state.
Before joining the NDC, he was the Bayelsa West Senatorial Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), where he played a key role in political mobilisation and party affairs across the region. He also served as Commissioner for Special Duties in Bayelsa West.
Currently, he serves as the State Labour Civil Society Secretary of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a position he still holds.
Speaking on his aspiration, Magbisa reaffirmed his commitment to peace, unity, and constructive engagement with all stakeholders throughout the political process. He emphasized the importance of inclusive governance, effective representation, and community-focused leadership.
Supporters and political associates describe him as an experienced administrator with deep grassroots connections and extensive knowledge of local governance. They expressed confidence in his ability to provide quality representation and contribute meaningfully to legislative activities in the state assembly.
Further updates regarding his consultations and political engagements are expected in the coming weeks.
