Campaign Council spokesperson attributes Obi’s exhaustion to demanding political engagements, while party spokesman says he is unaware of any health concerns.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed concerns surrounding the health of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, insisting that he is in good health and only experienced exhaustion following demanding campaign activities.
Deputy Spokesperson of the NDC Campaign Council, Sam Omale, said Obi had been advised to rest after weeks of travelling across cities and participating in several political engagements.
Omale made the clarification during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, following concerns about Obi’s condition after a campaign rally in Enugu State.
According to him, the former Anambra State governor has maintained a demanding schedule, travelling between cities and attending multiple engagements, which has understandably resulted in physical exhaustion.
He described Obi as passionate and energetic, adding that his commitment to national development often pushes him to take on several responsibilities simultaneously.
Omale, however, stressed that nothing was wrong with the presidential candidate’s health, explaining that the party was encouraging him to take adequate rest.
He also maintained that the temporary exhaustion would not disrupt the NDC’s campaign activities, noting that Obi would continue with town hall meetings ahead of the main rallies.
However, the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, expressed surprise over the claim that Obi was exhausted, saying he was unaware of any health-related concern.
Director, who disclosed that he recently spent time with Obi during his visit to Bayelsa State, maintained that the presidential candidate was in good health.
He said he had no knowledge of any situation requiring party officials to persuade Obi to slow down his activities, adding that Omale was better positioned to explain the circumstances surrounding his comments.
The differing remarks from the two NDC officials have drawn attention to the party’s explanation of Obi’s recent schedule, although both maintained that there was no confirmed health crisis involving the presidential candidate.
