The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has officially debunked a viral press statement circulating on social media which claimed that Mr. Collins Osazee Idahosa had been expelled from the council and barred from all related engagements, describing the publication as unauthorised and misleading.
The council clarified that the statement did not originate from any recognised organ of the NYCN and should not be treated as an official communication of the organisation.
According to the South-South Vice President of NYCN, Innocent Ajayi, the document being circulated is not an approved or verified statement of the union, stressing that it falls outside the council’s official communication structure.
Ajayi further noted that the so-called NYCN Diaspora Alliance referenced in the publication is not formally recognised within the constitutional structure of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, adding that official matters must be handled strictly through established and authorised channels.
He cautioned members of the public, stakeholders, and youth bodies to disregard the notice and avoid engaging based on unverified information capable of creating confusion within the organisation.
In a separate clarification, the National President of NYCN, Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, was also said to have confirmed that the council had no knowledge of the press statement prior to its circulation and did not authorise its release in any form.
The President reportedly directed that the matter be subjected to proper internal follow-up to determine the source of the publication and prevent further misrepresentation of the council’s authority.
He also distanced the national leadership from the content of the viral notice, reaffirming that NYCN communications must follow official approval channels to be considered valid.
The development has sparked concern within youth leadership circles over the increasing spread of unauthorised statements attributed to recognised organisations, with calls for stricter verification and adherence to communication protocols.
NYCN reiterated its commitment to transparency, order, and institutional discipline, urging all members and the public to rely only on verified NYCN platforms for accurate and official updates.
