The endorsement was made public in a statement signed by Comrade Imoladei Dogood Waribo on behalf of the Coalition Youths of Otuan. The group emphasized that its decision followed years of observing Akpoafagha’s involvement in grassroots development and community service across Southern Ijaw Constituency One.

Hon. Carter Cleopass Akpoafagha, a known political figure in Bayelsa State, has been active in community and political affairs since the early years following the creation of the state. According to the coalition, his track record spans over two decades of engagement in initiatives aimed at youth empowerment, community unity, and local development.

The group described Akpoafagha as a consistent presence in the constituency, noting his accessibility and responsiveness to the needs of residents. It stated that his leadership style has been defined by direct engagement with grassroots communities, as well as efforts to address socio-economic challenges affecting the area.

Southern Ijaw Constituency One includes several riverine communities where access to infrastructure and economic opportunities remains a key concern. The coalition argued that Akpoafagha’s familiarity with these challenges positions him as a viable candidate to represent the constituency in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.

In its statement, the coalition said the decision to support his ambition goes beyond political preference, describing it as a collective move aimed at securing better representation. Members of the group also indicated their readiness to take practical steps to support his candidacy, including facilitating necessary processes required for contesting the seat.

The endorsement highlights growing political activities in Bayelsa State as stakeholders begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle. Local support groups and community-based organizations have increasingly played roles in shaping political narratives and mobilizing grassroots backing for preferred candidates.

The Otuan youths maintained that their support is rooted in what they see as Akpoafagha’s longstanding commitment to service. They pointed to his involvement in youth-focused programs and his role in fostering unity among diverse communities within the constituency.

They also stressed the importance of experienced leadership in addressing ongoing development challenges. According to the group, the constituency requires representation that understands local dynamics and can effectively advocate for policies that promote inclusive growth.

While the coalition expressed confidence in Akpoafagha’s candidacy, it also called for unity among residents of Southern Ijaw Constituency One. It urged voters to prioritize leadership qualities such as experience, accountability, and dedication to public service when making electoral decisions.

Political observers note that endorsements from youth groups can influence local dynamics, particularly in areas where community ties and grassroots networks play a significant role in elections. However, they also point out that broader political alignments and party structures will ultimately shape the outcome of the contest.

As the 2027 elections approach, more declarations and endorsements are expected from various groups across Bayelsa State. For now, the support from Otuan youths adds to the early momentum surrounding Hon. Carter Cleopass Akpoafagha’s reported ambition to contest for the Southern Ijaw Constituency One seat.
